Self-Help Therapy Services
In addition to writing about travel, finances, leisure, and life on the internet, we offer what amounts to professional therapy services. I am–behind the scenes–a real life highly educated professional. Self-actualization and self-help are really important to me. I want that for everyone. Thus, I started this website.
One of my greatest skills is something I have only recently realized. I am good at listening to peoples talk about their life and helping them work through their woes.
Ultimately, Hangover Throat is a collective. At present only one of us has the skill set to offer professional personal advising.
We want to make the world a better place by providing a safe, non-judgmental context where you can share your thoughts. Working together we can develop life affirming strategies for coping and solutions as needed.
My areas of specialization are in relationships, specifically with family and love. I often find myself listening to people discuss their love life and providing appropriate suggestions. The people I have worked with appreciate that I listen to what they are saying and try to really understand them.
Any topic you want to discuss, I am here to listen without judgement. I work with anyone.
Related to the question of love are questions of family.
Warning: this is about to get depressing.
Did you know in the United States nearly all children are hit by their parents, up to 80% or more before the age of 5 (see this study from 2008 where 75% of infants under 13 months of age had been spanked in the previous week; or this 2010 study finding 85% of children had been hit by their parents; or this study from 2017 that found over 90% of parent use corporal punishment)?
We wonder what is wrong with our society or the kids or “people”, but on the whole we are profoundly hurting. We are a hurt people.
When you add social media into the mix, things take an even darker turn. Have you seen Social Dilemma on Netflix? If you have not, you should definitely go view this incredible look into the social media industry and its influence over our lives.
I am not a certified and licensed psychologist. I do have a PhD in a closely related, non-clinical field. If I chose to, I could quickly obtain the credentials given my expertise, but further indebting myself to student loans is not an option.
In fact, I have an even greater skill: not blaming you or “chemical imbalances” for your woes. Scientific research has shown “chemical imbalances” are primarily a marketing scheme to sell you anti-depressants so you do not think about what’s behind your depression. Those causes of depression actually have nothing to do with you.
Often, therapy and counseling medicalize social problems as though they are individual and isolated within your person. Fortunately, that is only partly true and the majority of our problems arise from factors outside of us. Our environments and the people we interact with are often major influences on our state of mind.
Ready to schedule a meeting with me now?
My professional advising offers an opportunity to chat about your problems with a non-judgmental supportive adviser who can offer you personalized guidance.
Not quite counseling, not quite therapy, not quite a life coach. These clinical terms attempt to make your problems into a medical issue and remove you from your own life. They even tend to treat you like you are a problem. You are not a problem!
This service includes: up to 1 hour of chat (online) each day for up to 3 days each week.
When COVID-19 is all said and done, maybe our chats will lead to an in person meeting where we can celebrate our accomplishments.
